Kestrels Class

Kestrels Class have been having a great time at the Madley Environmental Centre. We are working towards the 'John Muir Award' learning about caring for, exploring, conserving and sharing our experiences of wild place. We have had a great time making natural paints, pond dipping, making homes for wildlife and just enjoying the experience being out of doors together.

World Book Day

For world book day we looked at the text 'Oi, Frog!'. We did lots of work about rhyming and then made these amazing models of the different animals.

A busy few weeks in Kestrels class! We have made helmets and created some amazing poppy artwork. We have read more stories and particularly enjoyed recreating a story about, 'The Blitz' using sound effects and props. We have also been making some paper mache soldier helmets, as you can see in the photos! We have written about how soldier's might be feeling and have worked hard identifying coins in our gricer's- even using a ration book. We also hired some real WW2 resources which we all enjoyed looking at.

What a lovely week to start our Past and Remembrance topic. We have enjoyed being hands on and looking at real life objects such as gas masks, uniform and ration packs. We have read the story of 'Stubby' and all enjoyed talking about the story afterwards. We have also enjoyed a focus on Science this week and made our own experiments. Finally we have all enjoyed time in Forest School learning about fire safety and toasting marshmallows!

This week in Kestrels class we have been reading more stories about inventions including 'The Most Magnificent thing' and 'If I built a car'. We have been designing our own inventions and finding pictures of our dream cars. Some of our inventions to save the planet have been displayed on the little inventors website! Take a look! Most exciting of all we have been able to visit Cadbury World this week, exploring how chocolate is made and the history of chocolate. We had the best day!

This week we have been reading the Most Magnificent Thing and enjoyed a great story massage whilst listening to the story. We have been exploring inventions and some of us have designed inventions to help save the planet! We will hopefully be part of the climate champions on the website https://www.littleinventors.org/
take a look at the ideas and hopefully ours will appear soon too!

Welcome to Kestrels 2021-2022!

This year in Kestrels the new class of pupils are supported by Holly, Sian, Justine, Vicki and Trudy. We also have Claire on a Thursday and Friday and Kelly on a Friday.

We have had a great first week back playing lots of games to get to know each other. We played a memory game and have also enjoyed some balloon volleyball. We have started reading our first story 'Charlie and the Chocolate factory'. We especially enjoyed tasting chocolate, dressing up and making some 'Augustus Gloop' gloop for sensory play!
