Day 1

Activity 1 -  Exploring ice.

Good morning! Today we will be exploring ice and ways that we can use it to mark make! The first suggested activity is an ice hand which can be used for rhymes and counting. It is also great for sensory play.

Then we have suggested paint based activities that can be done using ice. They are great fun and we would love to see what you create with your icy mark making tools.

Making the ice hand and paints can be done before you start or you can turn making them into an activity you do together as well. Perhaps you can make in the morning and play in the afternoon!

Activity 1 - My Communication, Language and literacy

Today we are going to be looking our main class story again. Click on the YouTube below that will take you to our main story ‘Outside my Window’. Support your child listening to the story on a phone, iPad or a computer.

In your resource pack find the comparing images sheet. With your child look at the two pictures of the different places the children live in the story. Identify the differences between the two places. Use the sentence stem when verbalising the differences-

The girl can see … a tree

The boy can see … skyscrapers

The girl can see… a swing

The boy can see… cars

Encourage your child to use the sentence stem when spotting the differences.

EXT – can they find anything the same?

Activity 2 - My Thinking and problem solving –Number

Today we are going to have a count around the house. In your packs you will find a sheet that you can record your findings. Encourage your child to go round the house identifying all of the items and creating a tally.

Once they have gone round all of the rooms sit and count the tally up together. See if they can order them from most to least.

Extension - If they enjoyed that one, try our outside one too!

Activity 3 - My Creativity and play - My Art and Design

In Art sessions, we will give you two options, in case you do not have certain materials at home.  Pick an activity and enjoy!

Option 1-Make a junk model home.

Suggested materials needed;

Any different size boxes, (i.e. cereal boxes), containers, yoghurt pots, kitchen roll tubes etc,

PVA glue, glue stick or sticky tape,

Paint (optional),

Colour communication board (optional-on website),

Scissors (optional),

Coloured paper/tissue paper,

Colour-mixing sheet (optional).

Activity-Go outside your door and look at your home if you can or have a look at a picture of your house on google maps, street view.  Talk about the features of your home, for example, how many windows it has and what shape they are, whether it has a chimney or what colour your front door is.  Gather up your saved junk modelling boxes and containers and have fun creating your home.  Stick pieces together with glue or sticky tape. Talk about the features as you stick them.  What colour and shape are they?  If you want to, add coloured paper to your home or paint it.  You can use your colour communication board again from last week, to choose your coloured paint.

Paint your house, using your colour communication board again from last week, to choose your paint.  Explore simple colour mixing when painting your house.  Use the colour-mixing sheet for help.

Extension-Make their own colour-mixing sentences using paint splodges on paper (i.e. red + yellow = orange).

Option 2-Draw your home.

Suggested materials needed;

Paper,

Pens/crayons/pencil crayons or chalks,

Coloured paper or old magazines/newspapers (optional),

Scissors (optional),

Glue stick (optional).

Colour communication board (optional-in your pack).

Activity-With support, draw your home, or help to draw the features of your home, when an adult has drawn the outline.  Use your colour communication board to make colour choices of pens, pencils, crayons or chalks.  Without a communication board, you can encourage your child to say “I want” and their colour choice.

Add more detail into your home creation.  Talk about textures and if you can, touch the outside of your house, how does it feel? What is it made out of? How can you make that texture when you make your home? Can you add anything to your paint, like sand, mud, salt? Or can you use tools to make textures in your paint, such as using a fork to scrape the paint?

Extension- Describe their creation and its’ features. Compare it to your real home or a photograph of it.  Have you missed anything? Is there anything you would change if you made it again?
