Merry Christmas from Doves Team

We've had a busy first term and it's gone so fast! All the children have settled in so well and Doves team are very proud of them. Although we are only able to focus on activities for brief periods, we've still managed to get lots done and make lots of mess!

Our favourite story has been Supertato, we enjoyed it so much and we were starting to join in with some of the actions. It also lead to some exciting activities with vegetables. We explored peas and squished them, we searched for the 'evil' pea in jelly and used different vegetables to paint with. We also tried different vegetables and even made some soup, we enjoyed peeling and chopping but nobody wanted to eat  it!

Although most of our time is spent in the classroom we have enjoyed visiting other areas of the school. We all love going in the pool and some of us aren't so keen on getting out again. Another area we enjoy is being outside and have been out in all weathers, including the rain.

We are looking forward to a rest over half term and then coming back to the theme of Magic, which will lead us up to all the excitement of the festive season!

Sept 2020

Welcome to Doves class. Within the class we have eight children who are all Reception age. For many of them this is there first time in school and for others they have had a long break; so we are spending time getting to know the routines and exploring the specialist rooms. It is difficult coming to school full time when you are four and by a Friday, there are lots of tired little faces within the class, (the staff also look very tired at this point too!)

Within Doves most learning takes place through play and the staff are very good at incorporating a wide range of learning objectives into fun and exciting activities. As it is the beginning of the year we are spending time getting to know everyone, what they like and don’t like and finding out about their families. This fits nicely with this term’s value of “Together”. This is also a good opportunity for staff to discover what motivates the children and plan for future development.

As a class, we have discovered we enjoy singing and we can make up and sing songs about anything! We are also fortunate that it is our turn to have weekly sessions with Alison, she is a musician who comes in to work with the children and they really enjoy all the fun activities she pulls out of her bag.

Our topic this term is Together and we will be using this as a basis for some of our stories and to talk about our feelings.  We are starting with the Colour Monster, which talks about lots of feeling as well as lending itself to lots of colour themed activities. The children are really enjoying the interactive story on the board and are starting to join in with some of the actions.

We are all looking forward to a busy and exciting term full of new experiences.
