Welcome and School Tour

School tour - School Council Video about what Blackmarston has to offer!

Welcome to the Blackmarston School website!

Please click on the various links to explore the many different elements of our school website, which will help you find out more about us and the things that we offer at the school.

Our school takes great pride in our aim to be filled with happy, healthy children, who learn through fun and exciting activities!

Blackmarston is a state-funded, co-educational, special school for children between the age of 2 and 11 years. The school caters exclusively for children who have special educational needs (SEN), including:

Complex learning difficulty and disabilities (CLDD)
Profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD)
Autistic spectrum disorder (ASD)
Multiple sensory impairment (MSI)

We also recognise that some of our pupils have additional special needs and/or disabilities or complex medical needs, which demand very specific provision within our setting.

The school was originally opened in September 1974 and was relocated to this accommodation and opened by H.R.H. Princess Anne in April 1997. During 2012/13, the school underwent a major refurbishment and extension and is now twice its original size. This includes 3 amazing sensory rooms,a hydrotherapy pool and 11 classrooms, all with their own quiet rooms. We also have a parent room, where families are welcome to meet and talk with staff or as part of the school PTA, which raises funds for the further development of the school.

We place great emphasis on encouraging an excellent relationship between home and school, thus allowing our families and staff to work together for the greater benefit of the children in our care. We hope you enjoy the website and look forward to any feedback you have on its usefulness in sharing information about the school.
