Welcome to Owls Class - September 2020

Owls Class

Welcome to Owls Class

This term we are starting with our topic ‘Together’. We are having fun getting to know each other and settling in to school. The second half of the Autumn Term our topic will be 'Magic'.

We love sensory stories in our class and we will be having several stories with lots of props to help us to engage. We also enjoy singing and we have lots of different circle time activities that involve singing or music.

TAC PAC is one of our favourites! We use objects or hands to tap or massage along to music.

Music and Communication is another favourite. We have several songs with props that we sing each session giving the children the opportunity to respond at different points during each song.

We love ‘Swing and Sing’ which is movement along to music.

We have lots of fun singing nursery rhymes and number songs. Children choose the song they would like with either an object of reference, a photo or a symbol.

We spend a lot of time working with early communication in our class. We use signing, objects of reference, switches, photos and eventually symbols to help to support the children’s understanding and expressive communication.

We love to get messy in Owls class! We can frequently be found covered in shaving foam, paint, play dough or jelly! We also explore dry textures too, with rice, sand, pasta or oats.

Learning to play is our main aim in Nursery. We have lots of different toys to explore and engage with. Some favourites are our ‘Jack-in-the-Box’, ball runs, pop-up toys, blocks, cars, shape sorters and puzzles.

Spring Term topics are 'People Who Help Us' and then 'Jungle Animals'. We will be learning about real superheroes such as doctors, nurses, firefighters and Postal workers. Our jungle animals topic will give us lots of opportunities to listen to and make jungle animal noises and explore jungle environments. We will be exploring lots of sensory stories, songs and activities relating to these topics.
