Spring 1

Our topic this term is Kings and Queens.  The children have already demonstrated that they know a lot about this topic and, during a brainstorming activity, came up with lots of key words and facts related to the topic.  There are some specific things that the class have said that they would like to learn and we will strive to teach these;

  • All about the King's Guards.
  • Why does the King live in a palace?
  • All about the King's children.
  • About kings and queens of the past.
  • Who does the hoovering at Buckingham Palace?

Our key text, The King's hats, tells the story of King Charles the III  and how he is finding his new crown just a little heavy to manage. His good friend Tom the gardener is on hand to show him that kings must wear all sorts of hats and that he must be brave and allow himself to be the king he was born to be.

Autumn 2

Welcome back to possibly the best term of the year, Autumn 2: The Christmas Term!  We have so many exciting things planned including our class assembly, Christmas performance and of course Father Christmas!  Talking of Father Christmas, he fits in perfectly this term with out topic The Arctic and The Antarctic.  We will be busy learning about the animals who live there as well as looking, in detail, at our class story, Lost and Found.  Whatever happens this term I can assure you that there will be days when your child has more glitter on them than on the artwork they produce!

Forest School

In Forest school this term we have been learning about keeping ourselves safe and one of the things that we have been practicing is returning to base.  We often start sessions with games of Hide and Seek.  If the pupils "can't be found" then an adult will shout "1,2,3 where are you?" That is the signal for all pupils to return to base.  They are all getting much quicker at acting on the signal.  We can practice this safely within the forest school area and it's a great skill to have for the future too when they are out and about with you, parents and carers.  It's always good to have an agreed safe space that they can return to if they get separated from you.

Kestrels have lightbulb moment! - We've been testing batteries and making circuits with lightbulbs and switches!

Elmer

Linking nicely with our topic, our class story, Elmer, is about an elephant who is bright-colored patchwork all over.  David McKee's comical fable about everyone’s favourite patchwork elephant teaches readers to be themselves and celebrates the power of laughter.

Autumn Term 1

This term our topic is Celebrating Differences.  We will be looking at how we are all different from each other as well as the similarities we share.  We will talk about differences in appearance as well as differences in our likes and dislikes.  We will also talk about different types of families and how these differences make us special and unique.
